It is thought that incorporating websites, blogs, and social media into university classes will help students become active learners rather than passive ones, which is what the prior method produced. Most of the curriculum is taught by teachers using a closed system in Ethiopia’s traditional higher education system, and students are graded according to how well they can apply the material to other assignments and tests. COVID-19, which we refer to as the new era of Ethiopian higher education, broke this tendency. Traditional concepts of authority and competency are frequently called into question by digitalization in higher education, particularly when it comes to the belief that the instructor is the only person with the knowledge and abilities needed to teach. Due to COVID-19, very interactive tools have been included in the education system, and learning is increasingly taking place outside of the classroom. However, the success of adopting pedagogical improvements and digitizing higher education in Ethiopia is influenced by several interrelated elements, including classroom furnishings and materials, as well as the culture and dedication of the ministry of education and higher education institutions. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the nation’s universities and education system experienced a transformation that compelled them to abandon their traditional education-based viewpoint. Every university has come to the realization that teaching in the traditional manner in the twenty-first century is not viable. The country’s Ministry of Education has a strategy to transform education by focusing on technology-assisted modern education. The ministry has now successfully implemented modern education using technology, despite numerous obstacles. The absence of rules and regulations for the online learning system is one of the difficulties. The Ministry of Education, with the help of the Civil Service Commission, declared that all 46 public universities in the nation now have access to provide online courses, and the government of Ethiopia will give recognition for online education degrees or certificates provided by Ethiopian universities after careful evaluation. This is a significant shift in Ethiopian higher education.
